From the viewpoint of sustainable development, it is imperative that correct management treatments are carried out at the right time with the trees still growing in the forest. Taking these management measures as well as environmental issues into account, the companies Kaivospuu Oy and Sahakuutio Oy have for their part endeavoured to influence the continuity of sustainable development.
..........These sawmills are situated in Eastern Finland, in the midst of well-managed extensive resources of wood raw material. Kaivospuu Oy and Sahakuutio Oy specialize in the sawing and value-added production of small-diameter pine, spruce and birch raw material. The sawn timber produced from this small-diameter raw material is admirably suited to production in the furniture industry, and in the laminated-wood and laminated-beam industries.
..........Small-diameter raw material also satisfies the ecological and economical pre-conditions for the diverse use of Finnish forest resources with sustainable development as the basis.

whose conversion begins while it is still in the forest.

The customer-based mode of action practised by Kaivospuu Oy and Sahakuutio Oy results in goods produced meeting the needs of the customer in regard to quality and dimensions.
..........Kaivospuu Oy’s and Sahakuutio Oy’s sawmills naturally complement one another. Pine and spruce are sawn at the Sahakuutio Oy sawmills in compliance with the quality and dimen-sional requirements of the customer. In addition to softwoods, Kaivospuu Oy also produces birch timber.


Both sawmills use hew-saw technology, suitable for producing special dimensions. The total annual production capacity of the sawmills is 110,000 m3 of standard sawn timber and 3,000 m3 of heat-treated timber. Of the total volume, birch comprises 20,000 m3, spruce 40,000 m3 and pine 50,000 m3. The kiln capacity is 50,000 m3, of which 30,000 m3 are dried to shipping dryness and 20,000 m3 to special dryness.

The customers of the two sawmills are mainly firms representing the joinery industry and other specialists in value-added industry for end-user needs both at home and abroad.
